I am Judy Barrett, Owner of SCI, and over the last 20 years, I have trained people for this career from a great variety of backgrounds, and have had a chance to assess the types of prior experience and personal qualities which make for success in this field. In fact, there are no real limitations on the opportunity to be a successful scopist, given a determination to succeed, basic skills in English grammar and punctuation (which are taught in the course), reasonable (but not outstanding) typing skills, and the flexibility to adapt to a variety of styles and preferences on the part of court reporters.
